CSIM Annual Meeting 2026

In collaboration with

CIMUS POCUS Skills Workshop Series 2026:
Ambulatory Lung and MSK Ultrasound

Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 7:00am-12:00pm
Le Westin Montreal

Patient assessment for ultrasound in the ambulatory setting differs from that in the inpatient setting.  In this interactive workshop, participants will learn to acquire sonographic images to address pulmonary and musculoskeletal complaints for the ambulatory patient.

Maximal time will be devoted to direct hands-on training on standardized patients with direct supervision from instructors including internationally known point-of-care ultrasound experts.  The learner to instructor ratio is capped at 3:1 to maximize learning.

Pre-registration required and separate registration fee applies. Must be registered for at least one day of the CSIM Annual Meeting 2026 to register for the POCUS Workshop. Limited availability on a first come, first served basis.

Pre-requisites:

  • Participants MUST have basic relevant ultrasound physics knowledge prior to attending the workshop.
  • Pre-reading material will be provided and MUST be reviewed prior to the course.

Hands-on stations will address the following objectives relevant to pulmonary and MSK complaints in the ambulatory clinic patient.

By the end of the hand-son session, the participant will be able to:

  • Use ultrasound in the office setting to modify the pre-test probability of pneumonia, pleural effusion, and pulmonary edema
  • Understand relevant musculoskeletal ultrasound artifacts and how to overcome these.
  • identify and rule out significant knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle effusion using ultrasound
  • Set up patient machine properly for guiding joint arthrocentesis

Please note that this workshop complements previously offered workshops on cardiac POCUS scanning. Cardiac POCUS will not be covered in this workshop.
