Dr James Douketis

Dr. James Douketis is Staff Physician in General Internal Medicine and Thromboembolism at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. He is Professor of Medicine and holds the David Braley-Nancy Gordon Chair in Thromboembolic Disease at McMaster University.

He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Science, holds leadership positions in national and international thrombosis societies, and has several editorial roles in thrombosis and internal medicine journals.
Jim lives in Hamilton, Ontario with his wife, Dr. Margaret Nowaczyk, a clinical geneticist, has two sons, Jack and Luke, and is a cellist with the Burlington Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. McAlister is a general internist and has attended on the general medicine Clinical Teaching Units at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute Heart Failure Clinic since 1994. He obtained his MD (1990) and completed his general internal medicine residency at the University of Alberta (1994), and did his research training at the Universities of Ottawa and Oxford.

He served as President of the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine (2009-2011) and co-chaired the Canadian Hypertension Education Program Guideline Committee and Outcomes Research Task Forces. He has mentored nearly 100 graduate students and junior faculty members in research and academic General Internal Medicine over the past 31 years and has been Scientific Director for the Alberta Strategy for Patient Oriented Research Support Unit since 2020.
Dr Chinmoy Chowdhury

Dr. Chinmoy Chowdhury practices in Halifax and has trained at Queen’s University for medical school, Dalhousie University for Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine subspecialty training and McMaster for fellowship training in perioperative medicine.
He has interests in multimorbidity, perioperative care and resident education and wellness.
Dre Jenna MacGregor

Dr. Jenna MacGregor recently completed her General Internal Medicine training at Dalhousie University and is now practicing at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, PEI. Although early in her career, her goal is to remain a generalist by providing comprehensive care in community practice, with an interest in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys running, cooking, and exploring her new home on the Island.
Dre Eshita Kapoor

Dr. Eshita Kapoor is a subspecialty resident (PGY6) in General Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto. She also completed her undergraduate studies, medical school, and core Internal Medicine residency at the University of Toronto, including a year as Chief Medical Resident.

Dre Kara Nerenberg

Dr. Kara Nerenberg is an Associate Professor and Clinician-Scientist at the University of Calgary working in the clinical areas of General Internal Medicine and Obstetric Medicine. Dr. Nerenberg’s clinical and research focus is on the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases in women after common reproductive events, mainly the hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Her research is supported by CIHR and Heart & Stroke’s Women’s Heart and Brain Health Mid-Career Research Chair. The contributions of her research on the heart and brain health of Canadian women were recently recognized with a King Charles III Coronation Medal.
Dr. Nerenberg’s other main academic interest is providing mentorship to trainees at all career stages to support development of their independent academic career plans, with a goal of advancing the academic capacity of General Internal Medicine in Canada.
Dre Moira Kapral

Dr. Moira Kapral is the Sir John and Lady Eaton Chair and Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a staff physician at the Toronto General Hospital, where she attends on the internal medicine clinical teaching units. She performs health services research with a focus on inequities in stroke care and outcomes, and she is co-principal investigator of the Ontario Stroke Registry. She is a senior scientist at ICES and the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute. She has held over $20 million in grant funding and has over 270 publications in the peer-reviewed literature. She has received the Kenton Award for Disparities Research from the American Stroke Association and the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine.
Dre Isabelle Malhamé

Dr. Isabelle Malhamé completed her subspecialty training in General Internal Medicine and a Master’s thesis in Epidemiology at McGill University in Montreal, followed by a fellowship in Obstetric and Consultative Medicine at Brown University in Providence. She began her academic career in 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the McGill University Health Centre. In August 2025, she was appointed Associate Professor at Sainte-Justine Hospital, Montreal’s mother and child hospital, where she will continue to advance the field of Obstetric Medicine.

Dre Clara Lu
Dr. Clara Lu (she/her) practices in Ottawa as a general internist and assistant professor with the Division of General Internal Medicine. She has an Area of Focused Competence in Addiction Medicine, working as a consultant physician and Education Lead for the Substance Use Program at The Ottawa Hospital. Clara’s career passions include medical education and evidence appraisal related to social medicine, health equity, and addiction medicine. She leads a team that recently launched an elective Social Medicine Rotation for senior internal medicine trainees at the University of Ottawa.
