CSIM Annual Meeting 2025
In collaboration with

CIMUS POCUS Foundational Skills Workshop Series: Cardiac Imaging and Vascular Access
Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 7:00am-12:00pm
Pre-registration required (available in June); fees apply, limited availability on a first come, first served basis. Available only to registrants of the full CSIM Annual Meeting 2025.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn to acquire and interpret foundational ultrasound views relevant to the practice of internal medicine, focusing on basic cardiac acquisition and interpretation and vascular access.
Maximal time will be devoted to direct hands-on training on standardized patients and mannequins with direct supervision from instructors including internationally-known point-of-care ultrasound experts. The learner to instructor ratio is capped at 3:1 to maximize learning.
Pre-requisites:
- Participants MUST have basic relevant ultrasound physics knowledge prior to attending the workshop.
- Pre-reading material will be provided and MUST be reviewed prior to the course.
Hands-on stations will address the following objectives:
- Understand the scope and limitations of basic cardiac ultrasound in the care of the general medical patient.
- Acquire and interpret basic findings in the four focused cardiac ultrasound views on a standardized patient.
- Identify relevant vascular anatomy for peripheral vascular access.
- Perform real-time ultrasound-guided vascular access on task trainers using both out-of-plane and in-plane techniques.
