Climate change is affecting the health of Canadians as part of a global trend toward adverse health outcomes. Internal medicine patients are medically complex and as a result, they are particularly vulnerable to the downstream complications of climate change.
Join our panel of experts to review the role of internists in mitigating the climate crisis and provide feedback on internal medicine specific Choosing Wisely planetary health recommendations. Learn how to provide high quality, low carbon, evidence based internal medicine care!
Learning Objectives
- Overview of planetary health, its impact on patients and the carbon footprint of the healthcare system:
- Review the meaning of planetary health.
- Provide a brief overview of some of the health impacts of climate change on internal medicine patients.
- Describe how the healthcare system contributes disproportionately to climate change.
- Recommendations for a climate-conscious practice:
- Present the proposed recommendations for decarbonizing Canadian internal medicine practice, including a review of the evidence behind the recommendations.
- Provide feedback and discuss the proposed recommendations.
