Many thanks to Ben Chen for inspiring us to communicate through Social Media such as this blog!

GIM is continuing to thrive.

8 GIM programs have achieved full accreditation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. 6 more are in the process of review through the RCPSC and that review should be complete by July 2014. The active programs can be found through the CARMs website and/or the Royal College Accredited Programs website.

The GIM Examination can be accessed through either the traditional (residency) or PER Sub route (http://www.royalcollege.ca/portal/page/portal/rc/credentials/start/routes/practice_eligibility_route_subspecialists). Important deadlines are August 31st, 2014 for assessment of examination eligibility for the fall 2015 exam.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons is working hard on the Competence by Design project.

This will allow each discipline to elucidate not just what trainees should know but what they should be able to DO at the end of training. This is very exciting for GIM as it fits with our philosophy of training tailored to context and practice setting. More will be posted as details of timing become clear. We’ll be seeking lots of input!
